How To Prepare For Your Maternity Pictures
If you’re wondering what you need to know before your first maternity session, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few of the most common questions that moms-to-be have.
How far along should I be for my pictures?
Seven months is a great time to aim for. It’s the sweet spot where you’ve got a cute bump that is showing nicely, but you haven’t reached the discomfort of late term pregnancy. You can definitely schedule earlier or later, but keep in mind that babies arrive on their own schedule, and you don’t want to wait too long.
Can I include my spouse?
Absolutely! I love working with couples. If you have children, consider including the whole family. Some of the most precious pictures will be of your children interacting with you and their new sibling on the way. If you bring young children, I suggest inviting another friend or family member to help get their attention, and to watch them while we do pictures of just you and your husband.
What should I wear?
Dresses are always a classy option, though some moms-to-be opt for a more casual pants outfit. You want your choice to be fitted enough that your belly isn’t hidden. Vests can be a great option if you want to show off your bump, but want a little more coverage in the back. I recommend solid colors or small prints; big designs tend to distract and hide your belly shape. If you include your family, try to pick a coordinating, rather than matching color scheme.
Is there anything else I should know?
Bring along some snacks and a bottle of water. Wear comfortable shoes, especially if the location you choose requires a good bit of walking. Pay close attention to how you feel throughout the shoot. Being pregnant can mean being shorter of breath, or more dizzy then usual. If at anytime you need a break to sit down, don’t hesitate to let me know. It’s very important to me that moms-to-be stay safe and comfortable. And most of all, have fun! Your body is doing an incredible job growing a new human being, and it’s a reason to celebrate!
